The Concierge: The Real Hero of the Democratic Convention

August 5, 2008 at 11:55 AM | by jennm | 0 Comments

Denver is getting ready to host the Democratic National Convention August 25-28 and judging from this Denver Post article, it's not the police who will have a tough few days ahead of them, but hotel concierges.

Carolyn Bartels, a concierge at Hotel Teatro, is prepping for the big event by stocking up on things that might come in handy, like men's belts, cufflinks, Band-Aids and pantyhose, as well as contracting with a nearby salon and dry cleaner for 24-hour service.

"We don't want a VIP to come to us and say, `I'm going to the baseball game and I'm taking my five-year-old and I need sunscreen,' and for us to be without sunscreen."

That's great and all, but we think the more interesting story will be after the convention, when we can find out what didn't get used and what the most unusual request was--we're thinking stories along the lines of demands for an extra set of pearls for Michelle Obama so she can keep up those Jackie O. comparisons or running out of those minibar-sized bottles of vodka because the press drinks so much.
