Emirates Plants Trees at Wolgan Valley Resort

The Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa, the resort that Emirates is building in the middle of three national parks west of Sydney, isn't due to open until 2009, but that hasn't stopped the publicity machine pumping out praise for the green efforts of Emirates.

One of the features of the resort will be a conservation area that is only accessible to resort guests, plus the Emirates group have a range of plans to do some carbon offsetting.

Recent initiatives included removing noxious weeds and non-native plants, and now that's done they've moved on to planting 1,000 indigenous trees in a big reforestation project. This conservation area will be called Wollemi Grove and since the local National Parks and Wildlife office is involved, we're actually confident that they're dong a good job here.

Of course, when you read that the resort is going to have individual "temperature-controlled" swimming pools, you can start to imagine that the environmental footprint of the resort is pretty large; we're wondering if they'll need a few more thousand trees. But we're also pleased that the thought is there, at least.
