Is the Riviera Hotel and Casino Edging Away From Elvis?

Where: 2901 Las Vegas Blvd S [map], Las Vegas, NV, United States, 89109

About a year back we were getting all excited about the idea of the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas being converted into an Elvis-themed casino after rumors that Robert Sillerman was about to get involved.

Now, the Riviera has announced that it's half-way through a $20 million renovation project but so far, there's no sign of Elvis. The first phase involved remodeling over half of their hotel rooms, giving them completely new interiors plus a bunch of accessories like new flat screen TVs and iPod alarm clocks.

They say the casino is also going to get a refurbishment, especially the VIP slot areas and new convention facilities, but there is still no mention of The King. Yes, it's lovely that the new Riviera Hotel will have over 1,800 non-smoking rooms, but where's our Elvis memorabilia? Still waiting.

Re: Is the Riviera Hotel and Casino Edging Away

    Ok.. So here's the deal..

Robert Sillerman along with Barry Sternlicht are partners in a company called 'Riv Acquisitions Holdings' that currently owns a portion of the Riveria. Their plans were (and I believe still are) to purchase the remaining stake, but they are still working on it.

Robert Sillerman is also the owner of Flag Luxury Properties, which owns something like 17 acres on the Vegas Strip directly across the street from MGM's CityCenter. It's on that location (which is now retail and commercial offices) that Robert's company has announced plans earlier this year to build an Elvis Resort, since he is also the owner of all licensing for the Elvis name..
