And now we present you with the second edition of our Original Boutique Hotels series. Enjoy.

Nowadays, it's all the rage for fashion designers to create hotels. But just remember that Donatella Versace was one of the first designers in the boutique hotel game with the Palazzo Versace Hotel on Australia's Gold Coast.

Of course, in the words of the all-knowing Heidi Klum in the fashion world, "One day you are in and one day you are out." Thus the Palazzo Versace had to make some changes.

The hotel has just wrapped up a AUD $5 million renovation--its first since opening more than seven years ago. Label-loving guests will now find new bedding and upholstery as well as updated technology, including LCD televisions, in all 205 rooms which are completely furnished from the Versace Home Collection.

We're told that Donatella had her hand in all of this, ensuring the hotel has the ultimate Versace stamp of approval. So, certainly, we give the Palazzo Versace--the world's first full fashion-branded hotel--high marks for being boutique.

But whether or not the hotel maintains its boutique status remains to be seen.

A second Palazzo Versace is currently underway in Dubai, with an opening slated for late 2009. Located in Culture Village on Dubai Creek, the 213-room hotel will also be fully outfitted in the Versace Home Collection and will house a day spa, restaurant and 169 condominiums ranging from one- to six-bedrooms.

Plus, another 15 of these horseshoe-shaped palaces are expected to come to still more locations around the globe over the next 25 years. But until they do, the Palazzo Versace is still a one-of-a-kind.
