With staycations all the rage these days, we've decided to take a look at some of the best places in the U.S. for quick, close-to-home trips. Up first is Carmel-by-the-Sea, a small yet upscale town on the Monterey Peninsula. Known for its devotion to the arts and its celeb residents (Clint Eastwood was once mayor here), Carmel is also home to small hotels and inns galore. Enjoy.

With a name like Tickle Pink Inn, it seems hard to take this place seriously. But this inn is all business when it comes to offering you an extraordinary vantage point of the Monterey coastline in extreme comfort.

Rated #1 by reviewers on TripAdvisor, the Tickle Pink Inn is located just off the scenic Highway 1 on Highland Drive. The inn has 35 "casually elegant" rooms and suites, all with views of either the ocean or the coves of the Carmel Highlands.

If you want to getaway to do nothing but hibernate in a cozy room and enjoy a misty view of waves crashing with occasional sunshine, then this is the place. Pack your Uggs and start driving.

Each room at Tickle Pink comes equipped with plush bedding and bathrobes, and some modern conveniences like coffee makers and LCD TVs. Continental breakfast is included in the room rate too.

There's not much else to do at the hotel except chill. The shops and restaurants of Carmel are about a five to 10-minute drive away and the hotel doesn't have a dining room, bar or fitness center.

But Tickle Pink does offer a free wine-tasting hour in the afternoons and guests can order room service from the Hyatt Highlands property next door, according to this reviewer.

And if you are driving to this destination, you can always get into your car and hit up a grocery store for snacks. Funny, staycations are actually sounding brilliant to us now.

There are some downsides to the hotel but these don't seem to bother many of the reviewers. A few complained about the noise outside as well as from neighboring all rooms, but all said they would sacrifice the noise for the amazing view.

And as for the inn's name. It's not from what you think. The inn was once the site of a home owned by California State Senator Edward and Mrs. Bess Tickle. It seems the Mrs. was fond of the color pink and thought their cottage should be called Tickle Pink. And the name stuck.

Rates start at $249 a night for an ocean or cove view room.
