Westin Partners with United Airlines to Send Heavenly Beds Into the Skies (and Airports)

August 20, 2008 at 12:46 PM | by Jenna | 0 Comments

When we first heard the news this year that United Airlines and Westin Hotels were teaming up to send Westin's line of Heavenly Bed products, er, toward the heavens, we thought maybe it was a bit of an invitation to join the mile high club. But that's how we are.

While we knew there was going to be some Westin pillow and blanket action in-flight, we heard Westin was also going to take on airport lounges as well -- but details of that project were kept under wraps.

But now: behold! A photo of one of the brand new Westin Renewal Lounges within United's Red Carpet Clubs currently available in JFK, LAX, and SFO.

Details on the new Westin-designed lounges -- plus specifics of the in-flight Westin goodies -- after the jump.

While a lot of the furniture in the Westin lounges is the same kinds of fixtures found in many of the hotel properties, the airport hotspots feature daybeds and upholstered ottomans with a built-in tables -- both designed specifically for these airport lounges. Also, um, phototherapy?

The San Francisco lounge is equipped with a revolutionary blue-light ActiViva lamp -- not yet available for purchase in the United States -- which provides phototherapy and directly affects the way people feel by making them more alert, awake and energized [...] Each Renewal Lounge features a signature LED candle wall and artwork typical of the Westin soothing aesthetic.

Cool. And in the air:

United's first and business class p.s. service between New York and California now features custom oversized Heavenly blankets and pillows inspired by the Westin iconic Heavenly Bed.

Travelers will also be treated to refreshing White Tea scented towelettes and mints, and custom video and music on United's personal media players.

Oh, but don't expect any cool movies or anything on the "custom video" screens; right now, it's just "stunning, soothing nature scenes from across the world" set playlists similar to the ones used in Westin lobbies.

If that doesn't lull you into a trance, perhaps you can attempt to stun yourself senseless with alcohol: the new in-flight program also includes a seasonal signature cocktail inspired by the Westin SuperFoods program.

It's actually refreshing that airlines -- whom, it seems, tend to have little to no interest in the comfort of their passengers (we're looking at you, U.S. Airways) -- are actually teaming up with a brand that seems to understand comfort and hospitality. Anyone want to buy us a first-class ticket on United so we can check these goodies out?
