On Monday we were sad to hear that the hip Hotel G in Beijing had been shut down by the Chinese government due to a Free Tibet protest that has taken place in one of the guest rooms, much to the dismay of the hotel staff.

The closing had been reported by a journalist from New Zealand who had taken part in the protest.

However, today the hotel has sent us a statement about the hotel's closing saying it was not done by the government at all. Instead, the hotel has had some "technical difficulties" in its soft-opening and decided not to take anymore guests during the Olympics.

An official opening date for Hotel G as not been announced so until then, the hotel remains closed.

Read the full letter from the hotel's rep after the jump.

Dear Juliana,

Media Statement from Hotel G, Beijing

Hotel G Beijing, a new designer boutique hotel, is currently in its soft opening phase, with plans to officially open in late August.  Hotel G has been welcoming selected guests in small numbers since 25 July but is not yet officially open.

Due to some technical difficulties experienced at the property, the hotel has made the decision not to take any further guests during the Olympics period. Guests who did have confirmed bookings during this time have all been successfully relocated to other hotels in the city.

We would like to clarify that the hotel was not at any time closed down by the Beijing authorities, as has been incorrectly reported, and continues to enjoy a good working relationship with the local authorities.

We look forward to announcing the official opening date for Hotel G soon.

Thanks
Rosetta Hon
