Headed to Denver the Last Week in August? Good Luck Finding a Room
If you didn't already know, the Democratic National Convention is coming to Denver on August 25-28th and as predicted, hotels are filling up fast.
In fact, judging from this news report there's hardly any room at the inn left for anyone. Which sorta sucks if you were planning to come to Denver for non-DNC-related business or pleasure.
The only hope people have of finding a room is looking further out of town, but the prices will still be high.
Hotel prices have doubled, some tripled, for the DNC. It may seem like price gouging but if you look at the sign on the back of every hotel door, you can see a maximum rate offered for each room. By law any hotel can go as high as that rate.
The Sleep Inn at the tech center is charging $479 for a standard double. In Lakewood, Tally's Best Western Denver Southwest is offering a similar room for just under $200.
Wow, close to $500 for a Sleep Inn? Crazy. However, there are some (slim) chances of getting a room in Denver if a big group cancels. And we're guessing someone who was banking on John Edwards showing up probably already has.
