Club Med in Ixtapa Gets a New Look That Families Love

Anyone who stayed at an old-style Club Med will have more than a few bad things to say about it, especially when they get to the part about the tiny rooms with two twin beds that couldn't be pushed together.

Renovations have been rolling across the whole chain however, and last fall the Club Med Ixtapa Pacific in Mexico shut down for months so the place could be completely transformed.

Workers literally took sledgehammers to the concrete walls and the concrete platforms those twin beds were resting upon. Some $20 million later, it's an impressive transformation.

The expanded rooms are spacious and inviting, with attractive color schemes, interesting layouts, and a shower (with two different nozzle options) that's family-sized.

The lobby and main sitting areas display an upscale Moorish look that wouldn't be out of place in an exclusive luxury resort and the main buffet restaurant offers up four different areas with four sets of decorations--including one with trippy white jellyfish lights.

The overall effect is a nicer-than-average all-inclusive resort that will make most picky moms and dads happy, but one loaded with plenty to keep kids of any age occupied. With 30 acres of prime beachfront property, more than 60 multilingual staffers to keep everyone entertained, and even a swinging trapeze set-up, this is a place where you can do far more than sit by the pool and suck down margaritas. (Not that there's anything wrong with that...)
