About a year and a half ago, Mandarin Oriental announced their plans for a Paris location on rue Saint Honore to open in 2010.

While we still have a while to wait, the property should be nothing short of spectacular when it opens. Mandarin Oriental has invested nearly $40 million into the property, a 1930's art deco building, and expects this hotel to compete with the City of Light's other "palace hotels."

The hotel will comprise 150 luxurious guestrooms and suites which will be amongst the largest in the city. An expansive inner courtyard will be a prime feature of the property, along with an extensive choice of restaurants, cocktail lounges and bars. Meetings, private parties and other gatherings will be accommodated in elegant banqueting facilities.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Paris will offer holistic rejuvenation and relaxation in a tranquil setting. An indoor swimming pool and fully equipped fitness centre will further add to the hotel's leisure facilities.

If that isn't swank enough the hotel is surrounded by luxury retailers and is close to the Place Vendôme, where several other top luxe hotels reside.

And while the Mandarin Oriental won't be following the new hot jail hotel trend, the building did once upon a time house the Ministry of Justice.
