Hey, remember the Lamb's Club Hotel? You know, Vikram Chatwal's new Times Square project opening up next month? No? Allow us to refresh your memory:

Back in 1999, the New York Observer reported that Hampshire Hotels (the parent company of VCH) had announced plans to turn the historic Lamb's Club, the legendary Times' Square "theatrical social club" frequented by beloved figures like Fred Astaire and George Gershwin, into a hotel. Locals were sad.

Fast forward to 2006. The NY Post runs a similar story, this time specifically mentioning that "Hampshire Hotels announced plans to gut the building and construct a five-star, 99-room boutique hotel" to open in 2007.

We get excited. We hear architect Thierry Despont has signed on to design the place and predict an October opening.

2007 comes and goes.

And today -- in July 2008 -- we came across an HVS Manhattan Hotel Market overview with a little surprise in it: the Lamb's Club is still slated for an August 2008 opening! The report also mentioned some details we had heard from NY Mag earlier this summer:

In addition to guestrooms, the Lamb's Club Hotel will contain 6,000 square feet of meeting space as well as an upscale restaurant from Lotus Partners, a business center, and a health club.

After sitting through the whole Six Columbus saga, we've gotta admit that we are SO not buying the August 2008 opening date.

Have info, tips, or construction photos of the Lamb's Club? You know where to send 'em.
