The Arctic Club Hotel in Seattle will open its doors for the first time on Wednesday but unlke most new hotspots popping up these days, this hotel comes with its own interesting history.

The Arctic Club was an exclusive gentlemen's club formed in 1908 and filled with members who had made their wealth in Alaska with Klondike gold. Naturally, a men's club of this stature needed a headquarters so the building at 700 Third Ave became the Arctic Club Building, complete with ivory walrus tusks on the wall.

Now 100 years and 1 spot on the National Register of Historic Places later, the building has been reborn as a high-end hotel.

The Arctic Club Hotel took two years to renovate and kept much of the historic building's character intact. And the interior decor draws much from that early turn of the century era. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer writes:

[Interior Designer Candra] Scott's selections for the Arctic Club are vintage pieces or historically inspired replicas, such as an antique vanity table in the women's restroom in the lobby and specialty lamps constructed from old maps and boat bumpers.

This reminds us of the Northwest version of the Maritime Hotel.

The hotel will open on Wednesday as a soft-opening. There is still construction being done on the 9th and 10th floors. Additionally, the restaurant Juno is not yet completed.

We tried the website to look at room rates but the reservations system wouldn't let us book a room for any day this week or next. Room rates are reported to start at $275 a night so we say call the hotel in person to book.
