The Lobby Lounge serves cocktails and appetizers and has an extensive wine list (which is to be expected in this ritzy enclave of the Monterey Peninsula.)
As for the bag piper, he starts on the hills at 6:15pm (in the summer) and winds his way back up to the terrace as the sunsets.
While you can have this experience without staying overnight (rooms start at around $565 a night), you will have to pay the $9.25 fee to enter the 17-mile Drive of which Spanish Bay is a part. But self-parking is totally free which compared to the parking fees, both self and valet, that most hotels charge, this is not a bad deal.
