Every so often we feature a hotel review from one of our readers that we feel should be shared with the rest of you dear hotel guests. These reviews are highlighted because they are timely, about cool hotels in cool places and are relatively level-headed. Think you can submit one just like this? Send it in. Now, we present you with solid reviewer Michael S. Dacko's review of the W San Francisco which got a new look. Enjoy.

The W San Francisco was one of the original W's that laid the foundation of what "W" stood for in 1999. Fearing that I was going to spend 2 weeks at a trendy hotel to find "wear n tear" left and right was my main concern. Boy was I wrong!

The W San Francisco has renovated their interior quite a bit to keep sleek and posh like the rest of the new Ws, but original and unique just as all the Ws are. Since San Francisco has such an Asian influence in the city, the designer took much of that Asian influence and incorporated designs in with it. (Check out the elevators!)

I have to admit, I am a little bit greedy when it comes to upgrading to rooms at any W. I want the best and I won't stop until I get somewhere. The W San Francisco didn't disappointment me.

I started out in the Cool Corner room on the 8th floor which was already an upgrade 2 times from the Wonderful Room. I didn't like the view of the concrete terrace below. I was able to upgrade myself to the 19th floor to a Fabulous Rm - another upgrade.

By the second week of my stay, I figure I'd give it a try to see if I could get upgraded to a suite for the rest of my stay. Having doubts there would probably be no way, one of the front desk managers went ahead and upgraded me to a Fantastic Suite on the 25th floor! (4 upgrades- and I'm only a gold SPG member) From 300 sq ft to 700! It was a dream come true.

The views of San Fran were magnificent. The suite contained 2 full baths, 5 huge windows, 2 plasmas, Ian Schrager-like furniture, and an interesting black and white mural when you walk in.

The service was great. I think I was treated better at this hotel (not being a W Card Holder anymore) than I was at the W Seattle flashing my W Card left and right. [Ed. Note: Michael gave us the lowdown on the VIP card last year.]

The only complaints I had about the hotel are as follows:
· The parking is outrageously expensive at around $50/night which forced me to find alternative parking which caused me to walk to other garages which then forced me to walk around the city more, which is a good thing because then i was able to explore more!
· Most of the windows distorted some views because they needed to be washed on the outside. I don't know what kind of film it was, but it seemed to be on every window i looked out from the hotel.

Thanks Michael! Anyone else stayed at the W San Francisco? Tell us what you thought here.
