Snapshot:: You Gotta Get Past These People at The (Not In) Soho House

After we checked out the W Hoboken from the Lackawanna station/PATH train stop, we headed into the city to have a lunch at The Soho House.
First important thing to remember about the Soho House is that it's not in Soho. It's in the Meat-Packing District, across from the Gansevoort. It's fairly non-descript entrance is on Ninth Avenue, across from the Hog Pit, a drinking hole decidedly less exclusive than Soho House.
Once you open the door to the hotel, there is no grand lobby filled with artwork, fountains or seating areas. What you get is something just a touch larger than a cramped hallway with an imposing front desk on your right.
Everyone must check-in here. There is no getting around that. And unless the clerks know you, they are not friendly or cordial.
If you need to wait for your meal ticket (ie. Soho House club member) to arrive, you can do so in one of two dark green leather armchairs. They are comfortable, if a little low to the ground for our grandma-y sensibilities.
Upstairs awaits guestrooms, a restaurant, a bar and the pool. While the club levels and the pool are reserved for its members, this is a hotel so hotel guests are entitled to use these areas as well.
On our first foray to Soho House, we ate on the sixth floor's drawing room which housed all sorts of young professional types working on laptops while eating. We had the cheeseburger. It was good. Not much else to say. Maybe next time will be more eventful.
Room rates at the Soho House start at $525 a night.
