December 2008 is sure to be a momentous month for Kimpton Hotels, as a new pet-loving, quirky child of theirs is set to be born in Miami.

Get ready for The Epic Hotel and Residences, a 414-room (!) property with two swimming pools, 11,000 square feet of meeting space, a poolside lounge and an open-air nightclub.

Also planned for the gigantic complex, which seems almost like a big Kimpton theme park (KimptonWorld? Six Flags Over Kimpton? Okay, maybe Epic will do):

Two destination waterfront dining establishments, full-service spa and fitness center and onsite retail shopping.

Cool. Epic, even. But we have two teensy little questions.

First: is a 414-room property still going to be considered "boutique"? How's that going to work?

And, more importantly, while we were told this is Kimpton's very first property in the state of Florida, we couldn't help but remember a little Coconut Grove property by the name of the Mayfair Hotel and Spa which used to be owned by Kimpton, if we recall correctly. Hmmm...we wonder why they're touting the Epic as Kimpton's first Florida property. What's up with that?

Oh wait -- maybe it's because the Mayfair (under its new management) is a hot mess, getting "dirtier and dirtier by the day."

Interesting. Check out plans and renderings of Epic here.

Kimpton wont last at Epic. They were tossed out at Mayfair for bouncing checks on unit owners of condos and losing tons of money against budget. Ask them, they cant deny it! Bob Waun is a unit owner who can confirm

Kimpton has opened 3 amazing properties in the last six months, the Palomar in Arlington, the Monaco in Alexandria and the Palomar in LA.  With the the Epic they are going to be opening the Vu, a new build hotel in Manhattan at the same time.  Kimpton seems to be OK, and their properties are a far cry from the Mayfair.  Maybe Bob Waun should get his ass up on a ladder and clean that place up rather than bitch about the management firm????

Kimpton never owned Mayfair. They only managed the hotel and back then, The Falor Companies were one of the owners and we all know what has happened with them.

You need to get your facts straight. The Falors owned the Mayfair and sold the condos. D. Falor ran the property. C Falor ran the construction and R. Falor did financing. They brought in Kimpton and made many promises. The Hotel was suposed to be done in March of 05.That date changed no less than 10 times. It was January 06 and still NO POOL nor had all of the rooms been brought back into inventory.
In all of that they expected to sell rooms at premium rates and make money. In a hotel that has jackhammering, pipe and drape in the lobby and dust all over the place was impossible. The Falors kept infusing capital just to keep the hotel going since it was not making enough to cover its expenses.
The Budget was a joke. Those numbers came out of thin air. No reasoning behind them except the Falors expectations. That does not make them realistic nor attainable.
