The inn overlooks the Mississippi River and, with its decorative wrought iron and gas-lit lanterns, looks more like it belongs in New Orleans than Memphis. Its 28 rooms have flat-screen TVs, four-poster beds and Gilchrist and Soames toiletries, though the bigger draw are the rooms with flower-boxed open windows that have views of the Mississippi--the perfect place to take in the sunset over the river while enjoying the port wine and chocolate truffles that come with turn-down service.
The hotel is 10 blocks northwest of Downtown Memphis and has enough onsite activities to keep guests entertained, including two restaurants, a rooftop bar and a cooking school. Rates, which start at $245 per night, include breakfast in the inn's fine-dining restaurant, Currents; Internet access; valet parking; and use of its fitness room.
Knowing all that, I almost forget what the hell I'm doing in Memphis. Oh, right--Graceland. Lucky for me, it only happens to be a short ride away.
