After the Aloft Hype Dies Down, the Guest Reviews Come In

July 24, 2008 at 1:30 PM | by | Comments (2)

Now that the smoke has cleared from the first big blitz of Aloft hotel openings and we had a chance to spend a night in one ourselves, we dropped by our trusty ol' pal TripAdvisor to check out customers' reactions to the brand.

And the reviews were kinda all over the place. Most of them were positive, though, and the words "cool" and "funky" were used a lot. Someone even called it a "hipper Four Points by Sheraton" (really?) but then finished out the review by saying the concept just doesn't quite come together.

But some were not quite that nice.

For instance, user Scheidler threw out the harshest diss of all:

A little bit like a fraternity house...When you walk in, you see a pool table in the lobby along side with a bar. The front desk is staffed by young people in polo shirts. Its 'business center' consists of two computers plus a printer in the lobby in plain sight, out in the open.

Ouch. But to be fair, that particular reviewer only stopped by and didn't stay the night.

But in general, most reviews were on the weak positive side -- nobody seemed too blown away, but we thought user Earplugs' review was fairly representative of most of the guest's impressions:

The hotel was very stylish and modern, and very new (the smell of the new materials was a little strong though). The rooms were so quiet; if I hadn't looked out the window and seen the planes I doubt I would have known we were right near the airport. One little impracticality...the shower stall, while very cool with its tile floor, just didn't have enough slope to drain properly and the floor of the stall sort of became a pool with each shower.

Really honest reviews given by consumers can be very helpful for those who are planning to stay in certain hotel.

One can hardly find honest reviews

But the truth is that today one can hardly find honest reviews related to worldwide hotels or other things. Most of those reviews are fake.
