Ok, so technically "across the street" really means a minor road not anything like the 405 Freeway or even Park Avenue. Yet it does make for less-than-desirable beach access as one guest wrote:
The hotel is right on the beach - you do need to cross a road, but we didn't find that burdensome at all. The only slightly awkward thing is returning from the beach wet and slightly sandy from an ocean swim and having to walk through the ultra-deluxe lobby. But we were ok with that.
Another problem that the Ritz faces? As commenter TonyT pointed out, the hotel is right next to Beach Place "that has bars that stay open until 2am every day of the week." Indeed this riled one guest. So maybe this brand switcheroo works out best for the St. Regis after all.
