Beverly Hilton Not Best Place to Have an Affair as John Edwards Discovers the Hard Way

Remember the other week when Concierge.com put out a list of Best Hotels for an Affair? Good thing they didn't put down the Beverly Hilton.

Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards was ambushed by National Enquirer reporters as he attempted to visit his alleged mistress, Rielle Hunter, and their love child at the hotel on Monday night. From the NE:

At 9:45 p.m. (PST) Monday, Edwards appeared at the hotel, and was dropped off at a side entrance. NATIONAL ENQUIRER reporter Alan Butterfield witnessed the ex-senator get out of a BMW driven by a male companion and stroll into the hotel.

Said Butterfield: "Edwards was not carrying anything. He walked in alone. He was wearing a blue dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He was looking around nervously before he entered the hotel.

"Once inside, he interestingly bypassed the lobby and ducked down a side stairs to go to the bottom floor to catch the elevator up - rather than taking the elevator in the main lobby. He went out of his way not to be seen."
Meanwhile, Rielle had reserved rooms 246 and 252 under the name of the friend who had accompanied her from Santa Barbara, Bob McGovern. Rielle was in one room and McGovern was in another with her baby. This allowed her and Edwards to spend time alone, a source revealed.

That is some pretty specific info--we wonder how much NE slipped the hotel staff at the hotel for that bit? But things actually got worse for Edwards from there.The reporters accosted him as he emerged from the hotel elevator in the basement and proceeded to ask him questions about what he was doing there.

Edwards sought refuge in the men's room until security came down to escort him outside and blocking off the reporters. All this went down in front of a few guests who were looking on from a staircase nearby (Ed. Note: Guests who witnessed this--email us!)

No one has issued an official statements regarding the story but it's making its way around the internet in a major way today. LAist reports that the NE website even crashed because of the heavy traffic.

The only people who probably benefit from this are the celebs doing dubious things at the Chateau Marmont. We bet the NE reporter locked in the staircase was let out for a little while to help with the NE's big scoop. Celebrities--go wild tonight at the Chateau!

Character question

I guess it all depends on what the word 'character' means. Blatantly ignoring a vow in marriage qualifies for me as TOTAL LACK OF CHARACTER, but then I'm old fashioned.

His wife Elizabeth announced BEFORE Edwards' primary campaign that she had 4th stage metastatic breast cancer, which had spread to her bones. I am personally aware of how devastating this is and how difficult it is to deal with medically, physically and emotionally.

Any "man" that would do what he has done to his wife at a time when she needs him the most in her fight against the worst kind of cancer, deserves to be ignored as a public figure for the rest of his life. Will he treated so??? Probably not - - look at Bill and Hillary who apparently dont' have much regard for the institution of marriage.

Someone once said if you want to do the best thing you can do for your children; love their Mother.

John Edwards recently answered a question by Katie Couric about extramarital affairs by politicians His answer was that most Americans wanted a person of character as President.
