Brooklyn Hotels Safe from Weekend Power Outages

Things got unpleasantly steamy in four parts of Brooklyn yesterday - Sunset Park, Bay Ridge, Borough Park and Park Slope - when 4 "big feeders" malfunctioned and knocked out power to 2,000 Brooklyn residents and businesses. And it was hot. Like, really hot.

Con Ed reduced voltage in the area by 8 percent to keep the power failure from spreading, so for those who still had power, "television sets flickered, washing machines halted midcycle and fan blades turned at lower-than-usual speeds all day."

So what about the hotels in the area?

Off the top of our heads, we could think of a few Brooklyn hotels this could have affected: Nu Hotel, Hotel Le Jolie and Hotel Le Bleu in Park Slope (which was closest to the problem area).

We couldn't imagine the grossness of being in a tiny NYC hotel room with no air conditioning, so we called around this morning to see what kind of pain and suffering the power outage caused Brooklyn hotel guests.

Turns out: little to none! Nu Hotel and Le Jolie both said they were unaffected by the power outages, and Le Bleu just reported there was a "power shortage" but nothing spectacularly awful.

Today is not supposed to be quite as hot as it was yesterday, but the National Weather Service has still issued a heat advisory - so here's hoping the "feeders" won't malfunction again...
