Oh, Harry Potter fans. We smiled when we passed by the bookstore the night you were all camping out for the midnight release of book 7, costumes and all. And we like to think we were very understanding when you retreated to a quiet spot to read the book for the next 20 hours. And then we tolerated our Google newsfeeds with a good attitude as they were flooded by the news that a certain characters' sexual preference was revealed.

But even we, as supporters of crazy Harry Potter fanpeople worldwide (even though some of us at HotelChatter haven't read a single one of the books), think this is a little much.

See, room 552 at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland is where author J.K. Rowling finished the very last book in the series back in January of last year. The hotel renamed the 180 square-foot room in her honor, and now, according to the Telegraph, Harry fans fly in from all over the world to stay in the legendary room.

The going rate? £965 per night - almost 2,000 USD. Yeah.

What you're getting:

The 180 sq ft room includes the writing desk used by the author, as well as the queen-size bed in which she slept.

However, the highlight is a marble bust of the Greek god Hermes on which she scribbled in black marker: "JK Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room (552) on 11th Jan 2007."

Hmm. Magical? Again, we respect your devotion, HP fans, but we don't know about all that. If we're forking over $2000 for a night in a room that's smaller than a typical mid-range Manhattan hotel room, we should at least be given temporary wizard skills or something.

Rates at the Balmoral start around 180 GBP.
