Heathrow's Airport Hotel Gets a Pretty Good "Green" Rating; Still Has Never-Ending Hallways

The Park Inn Heathrow has just finished letting the people from the British GTBS--Green Tourism Business Scheme--go over their hotel with a fine tooth comb and they have now been awarded Silver certification for environmental practice. In other words, as far as being green goes, they're silver medalists--pretty good but with room for improvement.

Park Inn Heathrow certainly has done a number of nice green things, including installing low-energy light bulbs, and using water that's bottled in house to lower transporting and packaging costs. They've also developed the habit of running "green meetings" amongst their staff which means they use recycled paper and pens! (We're not sure what a recycled pen is but would love to see one.)

This place is no style-haven--just check out these never-ending airport-like corridors--but as a close-to-airport spot, the Park Inn Heathrow is reasonably popular with travelers who are flying out early or arriving late, so it seems a good choice if you want to add a bit of environmental caring on the top of that. Its rates average out at around £100 (US$200) a night.
