The iPhone Application for Hotels.com Is Not All That

The new iPhone is out and it's gone totally application crazy by installing an Apps Store where you can download a ton of new applications for your phone. (Don't worry, old iPhone owners. The new applications are available once you do your 2.0 upgrade.)

Naturally, we had to check out the Travel category of apps where we found some pretty specific and pretty mainstream apps. You can read all about it over at Jaunted.

But on the hotel side, Hotels.com is one of the few hotel-centric apps available, along with TripAdvisor and booking site, Travelocity.

The good news? The application is free. The bad news? It kinda sucks. The application had 14 reviews as of this afternoon and they were all terrible.

We downloaded the app and things looked promising when we first opened it. You can search for hotels near you based on your current location which is stored by the iPhone.

Then things kind of went south. The application takes so long, we almost thought our phone had stalled. Other reviewers echoed our sentiments saying:

·"A waste of space. Only of use if you are already at your destination.
· "All this does is find your location and then do a search in Safari. Lame.
· "Ugly and slow as a dog."
· "This is a pathetic attempt to gain icon-space on your iPhone.

Yikes! Those reviews are terrible but we agree with all of them. There were some nicer reviewers who while dissing the application itself did have nice things to say about Hotels.com regular website.

We have a suggestion for the Hotels.com folks: The application should give off real-time room rates for big cities like New York, San Francisco and Miami. Or at least list some of their hot deals in the application without making us iPhone users have to open Safari.
