The hotel's pool has undergone a transformation from boring Ritz pool, to RTZ Pool Lounge. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m, the poolside features a live DJ as well as a rock fire pit to comfort guests when the sun goes down. (Unlike the East Coast, California is cool at night in the summer.) Also white lounge beds, sofas and cocktail tables have been added to pool area to create a more loungey and hip atmosphere.
And now throughout the summer, RTZ is hosting VIP-only Sunday pool parties during the day.
DJ Prime will spin tunes while guests splash around in the pool or enjoy poolside massages from the hotel's spa therapists. A special summer fare and cocktail menu has also been introduced at the Wave poolside bar and restaurant.
We popped into the inaugural pool party (for hotel and special invited guests) and took in the decidedly un-Ritz-Carlton scene. Young hot Hollywood seemed to be holding down the fort here in poolside cabanas and lounge chairs, some even ordering up bottle service.
But since the party is still open to hotel guests, there were some children co-mingling here. One even ran up to us and asked us to bring them some more ketchup. Apparently, this little girl thought we worked there.
Speaking of the staff, they looked just as young and hip as their clientele. Cocktail waitresses sashayed about in short, flowy black dresses while the dudes wore golf polos, shorts and sunglasses. However, we kind of understood while a little girl asked us to bring her ketchup.
The staff was extremely busy and suffered a bit from ADD. It took us 15 minutes to get some menus and another 15 for our drink order to be taken. We'll chalk it up to everyone being a little star-struck. Hopefully, this will improve in the future.
