HotelChatter || It Might Be a Lonely Summer on the Rooftop at the Manchester Hyatt in San Diego

The Manchester Hyatt in San Diego is being boycotted by gay rights groups because its owner Doug Manchester gave $150,000 to Proposition 8, a California state measure to ban gay marriage.

While the Hyatt Corporate umbrella which just manages the hotel is not being targeted, boycotters (which include union leaders as the hotel is not unionized) are urging the public to avoid staying at the Manchester San Diego. And it won't be pretty.

Fred Karger, who is helping to organize the boycott and is running an organization opposed to Proposition 8, said he is also urging the public to boycott Manchester's other hotel, the Grand Del Mar.
"This is someone who is giving an exorbitant amount of money to write discrimination into the constitution for the very first time," he said.
Karger said he hopes the boycott will send a message to other potential contributors to the Proposition 8 campaign.
"Our goal is to create a business loss for people who contribute," he said. "We want to make it a little uncomfortable."

While Manchester (the man, not the hotel) believes marriage is only applicable to man and women, he says he has not discriminated or discouraged gays from staying in his hotels.

If the boycott is successful, looks like the hotel's killer top-floor restaurant and bar will be kinda lonely this summer.
