Tribeca Grand Blames the Recession for Repeal of Brunch

An interlude at the Tribeca Grand Hotel this past holiday weekend led to more than our usual share of disappointment: they have stopped serving their famous buffet brunch!
What was once a shining example of the grand tradition of hotel buffets, the weekend brunch from 10am to 3pm held in the atrium's Church Lounge was basically a $30 jumbo shrimp-for-all. So you can understand how our heart sank when we descended for such an experience at the ripe hour of noon and were instead greeted only with a menu stating that "breakfast" ended at 11am.
Further investigation into the disappearance yielded a hotel employee who explained that "there is a food shortage because of the recession" and so they had discontinued brunch at least through summer.
Can't the Tribeca Grand just follow the bodega example and jack up prices to the point that people want to protest, but don't because they don't think it's enough of a big deal to make a scene? At least The Hotel on Rivington still offers their free continental breakfast, recession be damned!
We then set out to appease ourselves by using all the Tribeca Grand's free services to death: we ordered up the goldfish and an ipod, we used the hotel bikes (sorry, the Sartorialist didn't spot us), we actually wrote on the notepad next to the telephone and we're pretty sure we left chocolate soy milk in the minibar.
Tribeca Grand--you totally owe us and other guests brunch...and that eighth gallon of soy milk because we are kinda thirsty right now.
