OMG: Gansevoort South's $99 Room Rate is For Realz

Yesterday, our cold hard cynical self could not/would not believe that a new hot hotel like the The Gansevoort Southwould ever offer rooms for $99 a night in addition to discounts at its new Philippe restaurant and its Cutler Salon.

But OMG, it's totally real!

A hotel's rep got back to us with this:

There are a limited number of basic rooms in the $99 room category, so when those run out the next available rate is $195. Guests can call the hotel and mention the $99 deal and book it that way and will be notified of the next best rate if all of the $99 rooms have been sold.

Obviously, a $99 rate is booking fast and the hotel's managing director Robert Van Eerde confirmed that for us:

It is very much legitimate as we are just celebrating the opening of Philippe and Cutler. It is however only very limited in availability on a first come and first serve basis. The phones have been hopping I can assure you!!!!

So get your groove on to Miami and find yourself a $99 room rate at the Gansevoort South. Then head over to Cutler for a 25 percent discount off your service. Once that's done, show your beautiful new self off at Philippe where you can also get a 15 percent discount off your meal.

One last tip: Make sure you book your dinner reservation and salon appointment through the hotel's concierge to ensure these discounts are honored.

    Didn't manage the $99 rate, but on less than a week's notice, booked a two-bed room for Sunday, July 6 for only $149. Which still seems like a pretty outstanding deal.

    This is not surprising. A huge amount of money went into this hotel (and it's still costing the owners money, as construction/finishing continues) so they really just need to keep the rooms filled and the cash flowing. Also,  July and August always bring cheap rates to Miami Beach hotels - even though it's not really any hotter than, say, April, New Yorkers aren't spending any time down this time of year when they can just hop a train to the Hamptons or Jersey Shore. That said, I'd rather be at the Gansevoort for $99/night in July than the Surf Club in Montauk for $450/night + 50 degree water.
