Privacy is a Plus
The primary element that shines throughout the property is privacy. The Inn is situated 500 feet off the valley floor, up a windy driveway and behind a locked gate. The Inn is comprised of 3 rooms and 2 suites, each of which is named after a famous American poet.
None of the rooms or suites share a wall with any other room or suite and each has a balcony with an unobstructed view of Napa Valley with Mt George as the high point of the western Mayacamus Mountains.
Inside/Outside Design
The architecture and interior design of the Inn was done by Napa Valley mainstay Backen Gillam Architects, also responsible for designing Esperanza resort in Mexico. The interior design, also by Backen's in-house designer April Powers feels as if you are in a home more than a hotel or high end Inn.
One of the key design features of the entire Inn and much of Backen's other work is the inside/outside living dynamic. Each room and suite has a large marble topped tub with dark bronze fixtures and 2 showers, one indoor and one outdoor on the patio.
Even in the smallest room which clocks in at 1,000 square feet, the bathroom alone made up 400 square feet of the room, not including the balcony off the bathroom with the 2nd outdoor shower. The rooms have floor to ceiling windows to take in the views, and most open fully get the entire experience.
Amenity Madness
Each room has 32" flat screen TV's, but then again, when you have the sun setting in the west over the Mayacamuses, and the impressive personal wine cellar of the Inn to select from, TV seems trivial.
For the oenophiles, the Inn is indeed connected with Poetry Winery, their Cab a sought after Napa Valley selection.
Guests are guaranteed a bottle for purchase and they can sip a glass while overlooking the 18 acres of hillside fruit it came from on their private balcony.
Bottom Line
While many properties are all show and no go, and B&B's can be like staying with your parents, Poetry Inn runs like a good property should. Starting at $862/ night, we certainly hope so.
