The Qbic Hotel in Antwerp is Moving to a New Location

June 3, 2008 at 1:00 PM | by jennm | 2 Comments

Much like a newborn outgrows his onesies in a matter of months, Qbic Hotels' Antwerp location is looking to move its operations to a bigger property in order to accommodate demand, despite the fact that the hotel hasn't even opened yet.

Apparently, the less than 60 rooms available at the Van Ommeren building that the low-cost design chain planned to have occupied by now just weren't enough. "We regret having to conclude that the number of rooms at this top location will be too small," Paul Rinkens, founder of Qbic Hotels, said in a statement posted on the hotel's website. "It's a beautiful building with great potential in a booming district in Antwerp."

No word on where the new location or opening date will be, but we do know that the Qbic Antwerp property will adhere to the same quirky pod hotel design as the chain's first property in Amsterdam. Rooms, which start at about $69, are called "Cubi" and feature an extra-long bed, Philippe Starck design bathroom elements, LCD TVs, Internet, safe and combination work and dining set.

    Hotels in Antwerp

Antwerp, city of diamonds, city of fashion... Considered to be the capital of Flanders, Antwerp has almost everything to offer to make your stay exciting, whether you like to spend your money on a luxury hotel in Antwerp or in a budget hotel in Antwerp. All hotels in Antwerp offer you charm and comfort, ideal if you are a business traveller but also appealing for family holidays. Most hotels in Antwerpen are a little cheaper than their counterparts in e.g. Brussels.

Still no Cubi news, alternative: designer B&B?

I still can't find any news on when Cubi is going live in Antwerp. I tried booking through their international site but the only location available from the drop down menu is Amsterdam. I starting to wonder if this project is going to move ahead at all. Check out affordable Belgium bed & breakfast in Antwerp. B&B represent excellent value and they are very charming. Compared to a hotel room of the same price, you'll get a spacious room full of character and individuality, amazing breakfasts and great hosts that love what they are doing. Designer bed and breakfast are very chic and have also become very popular - there is a link to a top 10 on the website.
