No, this is not a set from "The Darjeeling Limited." It's Sean and Eric's new hotel!

As we all know The Hotel Riverview has been undergoing renovations to transform the place from old-timey mariners' boarding house to a sleek new boutique hotel from hoteliers Sean MacPherson and Eric Goode.

And last we heard the hotel was going to be a sort of Japanese-style love hotel for New York. Which turns out to be somewhat true.

Here are the exclusive inside pics of what will be called The Jane Hotel, where 50-sq.ft. rooms will start at the unheard-of-for-NYC budget price of $99.

Keep reading for more detes on The Jane Hotel.

True, this budget chic comes at a price as shared bathrooms will be down the hall. However, for "slightly higher rates" guests can opt for the 250-sq.ft. rooms which will have private baths. There will be 200 rooms in total--150 are tiny, the other 50 (with the private baths) are just small.

Here is the official inspiration/explanation of these "micro-hotel" rooms:

Balancing the efficiency of a pod hotel with the lived-in character of a hostel, MacPherson and Goode, in characteristic style are overseeing every detail of rooms and public areas, from hand-picked artwork to original wallpaper designs to furniture and fixtures.

Inspired by luxury train cabins, rooms use smart design to pack maximum conveniences into minimal space; each "cabin" will come standard with air conditioning, fan, rails with coat-hooks, and a compact twin bed with built-in drawers and upper/lower storage space. All rooms will feature free high-speed internet access and 23" flat-screen LCD televisions.

Wow we are totally getting a Wes Anderson/"Darjeeling Limited" vibe from this description. And this type of traveling bohemia feel is exactly what Goode and MacPherson hope to bring back to New York.

SeanMac says:

Virtually all new Manhattan hotels seem to be versions of each other, high-end design palaces. By restoring the landmark hotel, rather than renovating it, we hope to resurrect an authentic slice of idiosyncratic New York, bathrooms down the hall and all.”

Goode and MacPherson will also restore the Riverview ballroom, once the gritty Jane Street Theater and birthplace of the rock musical “Hedwig and The Angry Inch.” Since the hotel rooms are going to be too small to do anything but sleep in, the hoteliers are hoping the ballroom will be the communal place to hang out. They are even going to offer complimentary breakfast here in the mornings.

But we think the real hit will be the swimming pool. The original hand-tiled swimming pool and bathing area will be restored and a sauna and bathrooms will be added as well. Pool party promoters be on guard for a new pool party in town.

The hotel will open a block of preview rooms in July and will unveil the rest of the hotel in stages during the Fall.

one of the worst hotel rooms i have ever seen.  i might go there and protest outside.  i'd rather let people stay at my place for free.

Haven't seen the Darjeeling Ltd BUT I love this place already. This is really all I ask for in a hotel room: a pillow, a lock on the door, free wifi and a central location. I lived in a room this size (and not even with a flat-screen tv!) for a month when I first moved to NY, before my lease began. It was perfectly comfortable and for that month I lived without all my belonging...it was then I knew I could be an ascetic.

i don't know.  i feel like there's people watching me behind the mirrors.  Or, someone's gonna walk in and chop me up in this cabin.

Are those just props for the shot, or is that a mini-bar dressed up as an old-timey suitcase? Because that would be magnificent.

OK iamdanny, I see your point. They can film a remake of Murder on the Orient Express here.

The Hotel is still an SRO (resident hotel). Anyone who checks in can demand legal residency on day one. Also hotel rates are legally regulated there and they will have to go before the housing board to get a rent increase approval. Oh yeah. right now they have exactly one room ready.

    here is the truth

This comment represents and speaks for all the tenants of "the jane hotel" formally known as the " hotel riverview". Only a small percent of us are left after a year of major harassment consisting of construction, bed bugs, rats and mice. sean macphearson and eric goode do not have any regards for humane rights and that is a fact. We have had to live with that fact, but not for long
