With all the talk about Starwood's Aloft Hotels finally opening its doors, don't think that we've forgotten about Aloft's younger brother, Element Hotels.

The first ever Element will be in Lexington, Massachusetts and is scheduled to open either July 1 or July 15--depending on which portion of Starwood's website you're viewing. Go figure.

But you can't make reservations through the Element website until after July 15. So we're guessing the opening date is the 15th.

That makes Element's opening occur almost simultaneously with the Aloft Lexington which is located adjacent to the Element.

Yet unlike the Aloft Lexington which lost out to those silly Canadians, the Element Lexington WILL be sticking to its initial goal of being the first Element to open in the world.

Two other Elements will open before the year is out. An Element in Irving, Texas is set for November 1 and the Element Las Vegas Summerlin will open December 15. Expect another 19 Elements open by 2010.

Starwood currently says there are a total of 32 Elements in the pipeline--making their goal of 400 hotels by 2015 a long shot. But hey, you never know. For those in Canada, you won't see an Element until September 2009 in Toronto. Hah! USA rules!

Sooo...how much for a night at this new extended-stay hotel brand? It's really not much more than the Aloft next door, and even cheaper on the weekends.

We checked out prices for both the opening night (Wednesday, July 15) and the weekend (July 18-19) and prices were less than we expected--$169 for the opening night, and a shockingly low $85.50 a night for the weekend.

Compare that to Aloft's $135 internet only rate on the 15th and $95 a night for the weekend of the 18th.

So a big thank you goes out to Starwood for sticking with your original claim of Element's nightly rate being in the $150 range. We were starting to doubt you for a little while.
