Morgans, along with co-developers Ames Hotel Partners and Normandy Real Estate partners (a partner behind the Chelsea Hotel in Atlantic City) and the design firm The Rockwell Group (see Nobu interiors), will convert the 14-story building into a hotel complete with 115 rooms, a hip restaurant (possibly a DB bistro or a Nobu according to some) and bar, and a gym.
Morgans has not said specifically how they'll design the hotel, but they've been talking about a new, edgier interior style. Perhaps the renovated Morgans Hotel in midtown and the newly renovated Mondrian in L.A. will give us a better clue of what Morgans has in store next in Boston.
Nevertheless, the developers are committed to maintaining the classical Byzantine exterior of the historic building.
Morgans has thrown $10 million into the project, so this should be one heck of a renovation and we can't wait to see what Morgans has in store for a much-needed new boutique hotel in Boston. The hotel is slated to open in late 2009, but we'll keep you updated on the project's progress.
