Is This The New, New Guestroom of the Future?

June 17, 2008 at 2:02 PM | 8 Comments

Every so often, a hotel sets up a tricked out guestroom with the latest technology and calls it the "Guestroom of the Future." Right now, we'd say that title belongs to Room X at the Courtyard by Marriott in Delaware.

However, there's a new "New Guestroom of the Future" on the block...if only for a few short days.

At the HITEC annual conference, companies devoted to all things high-tech in the hospitality world unveiled their latest visions for hotel guestrooms as part of Guestroom 2010.

MSNBC reported back on the HITEC show detailing several new amenities that could please geeks and hotel geeks alike.

But what we were most intrigued by was The Ammique Bed. There's no mattress here. Just a "system of linked rods and small caps." The bed is engineered to adapt to any body type and any movement during the night.

And since there's no mattress, there's less chance of getting bed bugs. It's even easier to clean as there are removable side panels which allows for easy vacuuming. And let's not forget the mood lighting!

But don't fret, all you pillow and duvet-hounds---there are three layers of padding to provide some comfort. The bed is actually available now for hotels to order (and rich people as the cost of a single bed is extravagantly high.) We wonder what luxury hotel will take a chance on this?

i've actually tested this bed and i much prefer a regular bed.  did not like it.  plus, people sleep on their sides as well.

Did anybody read this clearly: "a system of linked rods and small caps"??? Doesn't this sound like the most uncomfortable way you could ever sleep???? maybe I'm just old-fashioned.

Here is a link to the television news story about this bed.  I have tried it and it is way better than any traditional mattress or my sleep number bed.

Which hotel did you try this bed?  I'd love to sleep on it.
