Aloft Brooklyn Keeps On Rising

June 2, 2008 at 3:01 PM | 0 Comments

Ed. Note: Hotel Maven Michael S. Dacko gives on an on-the-ground report of the construction going on at the Aloft Brooklyn property. Enjoy.

Just wanted to catch everyone up with a status update on the Aloft Brooklyn Downtown. It's got about a year left in construction left on it and I can't wait for it to open.

Right now Brooklyn is HURTING for nice hotels, actually ANY hotels at this point. We have a downtown Marriott (that actually just opened up a 24-story tower last year) that seems to be very popular and that's about it right now.

Downtown Brooklyn is booming right now, regardless of what our economy is doing....we have condos and hotels in the making all with half mile of my house--right on the Brooklyn Bridge.

The new Brooklyn Aloft Hotel will bring a good "W" feel to the area which is needed around here. The area which it is being built in is very transitional so I'm hoping the boom in construction creates an influx of great retail and restaurants which I'm assuring it will.

Unfortunately, they have decided to put a Hilton Garden Inn right at the foot of the Manhattan Bridge just a few blocks away......that is SUCH a great spot for a 4 or 5-star hotel with excellent views of Manhattan, like the W Brooklyn or a Conrad Hotel, or maybe even an Ian Schrager Hotel... not a freakin' Garden Inn!!

Oh well...I should be happy just for the development alone.

Thanks Michael!
