Don'tcha just love Montreal? Above or below ground, there's never a lack of great food, cold beer, and lively nightlife. And if your French isn't up to parlez vous, no worries, English is the second language.

One of our favorite times to visit is late June/early July during the annual Montreal Jazz Festival, which takes over the city like one huge block party for the masses. This is a time when the world's leading international artists ascend on Montreal, performing day and night for 250,000 of their fans.

Catch a few sets on the live stages set up on the streets and in the parks. Purchase a ticket for one of headliners at an indoor concert venue. Or hit one of the clubs after midnight when the musicians meet up with each other to jam into the wee hours of the morning.

On the recommendation of friends, this year we're foregoing hotel points and checking into Le Petit Prince Bed & Breakfast for our stay.

One of the few B&Bs located downtown, the property is conveniently located on a quiet secluded street in the heart of the city and only minutes away from the best that Montreal has to offer -- boutiques, restaurants, night clubs, movie cinemas, theaters, museums, as well as the most elaborate network of cycling paths anywhere.

And yes, it borrows heavily from The Little Prince theme. But fortunately, the place is more a sophisticated B&B than homage to the little blonde boy.

Built in 1876, the small renovated home has retained all its 19th century charm, with slate roof, exposed brick and stone walls, and hardwood floors all in tact. There are four of the cutest rooms, color-coded Red, Bue, Yellow and Ivory. But no matter the color, each room promises a queen size bed with all the comfy down trimmings, TV/DVD/CD entertainment, a mini-fridge, and private bath with whirlpool and a simulated rain flow.

Green and Ivory rooms feature balconies, with a fireplace ideal for a winter stay in the Yellow and Blue rooms. Wireless is free, so take your laptop.

And whether your choose to eat your complimentary breakfast en-suite, on your balcony or in the dining room, you'll kickstart your day with freshly-squeezed OJ, a bowl of cafe au lait, fresh baked goods and your main course favorites prepared to order by the Chef.

A few words for the wise. 1. Shoes are left at the door, so bring slippers. 2. No smoking except outside on the balconies. 3. If you feel a strange cold nose or tongue on your leg, don't freak out. It's just Mocha, the property mascot, who makes an appearance from time to time (probably at breakfast).

Room rates from May through October rates are $200CDN Monday-Thursday and $225 on the weekends with a two-night minimum stay.
