Department Store Fashionistas, if you aren't brave enough to stay at the Ace Hotel in Portland, Oregon then there might be something a little more your style coming soon.
The Nines is set to open this fall on the top nine floors of the historic 100-year-old Meier & Frank building which now houses the city's Macy's department store. Aha. We see the inspiration for the hotel name: Dressed to the nines.
The property is pursuing LEED Silver Certification and will join the Luxury Collection of Starwood Hotels & Resorts. A development group called Sage Hospitality has some preliminary detes on the hotel: 331-rooms, an atrium lobby and restaurant and a rooftop lounge. Additionally, the hotel's architect SERA has some renderings.
Aside from the usual Starwood-branded amenities inside each guestroom, the hotel will offer the following:
The Nines will also offer a fantastic collection of contemporary art from artists in the Pacific Northwest, a rooftop bar and lounge (with views of Mt. Hood), as well as a lending library of more than 3,000 books from Powell's, Portland's famous independent bookshop.
.
And despite the Nines' good deeds pursuit of a LEED Silver Certification, the hotel ran into some trouble late last year, requiring more financing to complete the renovation and retrofit the place with luxury amenities. JP Morgan and the Portland Development Commission ponied up the funds to finish the place.
The hotel should open sometime in September.
