We're Dreaming of Tahiti But We'll Probably Pass on the Sheraton

Some might say that if you want to visit paradise, Tahiti isn't the absolute epitomy of paradise any more: but we're romantics, we like Gaugin paintings and we still have a real craving to try out Tahiti for ourselves.

So when we found that the Sheraton Hotel Tahiti ranks up as #2 of all Tahiti hotels on TripAdviser, we thought this might not be a bad spot to stay. However, whether that's true or not depends very much on who you listen to.

The basic facts of the Tahiti Sheraton sound quite promising: it's even located "on the very land where Princess Pomare made her home a century before". The thing is, we don't know much about Princess Pomare or why her home was destroyed (hopefully not by the Sheraton), but if it's a good enough spot for a princess, chances are it's good enough for us too. It's also close to the airport (it's used by many as an airport hotel) and is also a reasonable base for doing other island hopping trips.

The private beach gets a big thumbs up and having a view over nearby island Moorea from the hotel is also a bonus. The guestrooms are fairly freshly renovated (they were finished in July 2006) and they all include internet access now.

However, while many guests have favorable things to say about the Tahiti Sheraton, some do have bad experiences to report, especially if flights have you checking in after midnight--there have been known to be delays. Other guests have complained that despite its proximity to the airport there is no shuttle or bus service, and the only way to get to the airport is by taxi at a pretty pricey $30 for a five-minute trip.

Room rates start at 33,000 XPF (French Polynesian Francs) which is about US$430. The Tahiti Sheraton has a few interesting packages and we like the sound of the True Tahiti Discovery: 3 nights, breakfast, a romantic over-water dinner, and tours of a couple of local museums; the cost depends on the exact booking dates.

Have a spot in Tahiti that we should known about? Drop it like it's hot in comments below.

I feel sorry for you that your Tahiti vacation wasn't as your dream. The Sheraton hotel Tahiti is a great Hotel but it depends on what kind of vacation you were looking for, honeymoon, relax, visiting Tahiti...?

Upon your choice you could end up with the perfect hotel and I think you choose a vacation that didn't match your moods.

So next time you will travel, make sure you know what kind of vacation you want then visit websites like http://www.tahitivacationspecials.com or kayak.com and other travel website to choose your hotel or packages before you pack for the trip.

Travel planning is the secret to a great Tahiti Vacation!
