In the beer-drinking heart of south-east Germany, the Mandarin Oriental Munich is proving popular with travelers since its renovations finished recently (although personally we're a bit puzzled by the new furniture in this picture).

Right now it's rating as #3 out of some 350 hotels on the TripAdvisor ratings so are hunch that it's a good spot to stay is definitely shared; on top of that, their website boasts that a Travel + Leisure poll put them in the Top 10 of the world's best hotels.

The location is great, right near the Marienplatz which is where Munich ticks. The hotel has everything, even a Michelin-starred restaurant, and the rest of Munich is right at your feet anyway.

What we like is all the different packages available--sounds like there would be something to suit most people.

For example, they offer an FC Bayern Package for football fans, which includes some kind of FC Bayern merchandise (they don't say what, we're curious!) and tickets to a match at the Allianz Arena. Along with breakfast, the package starts at €689 (US$1,060) per night.

There are also packages including castle tours (by Mercedes Benz, of course), opera tickets and a very expensive private tour of the Swiss Alps--given that they're actually quite a hike from Munich, that one includes a private jet and a picnic in the alps, for €14,450 (over US$22,000).

For that price we could spend a month in the Swiss Alps, but it wouldn't be quite as glamorous as being flown in by Mandarin Oriental.
