The GPA is a charity that's beyond near and dear to the Wyndham's general manager Tom Smalley. In fact, Tom has adopted two greyhounds from the organization which finds loving homes for greyhounds retiring from race tracks across America. The Wyndham Costa Mesa has partnered with the GPA of Orange County and the Greater Los Angeles area which places greyhounds from the Caliente Race Track in Tijuana.
On the Saturday that we were staying at the Wyndham (at the hotel's behest), we witnessed the Leash-Cutting ceremony of the hotel to kick off both the "Be Kind to Animals Week" (May 4-10) and the Paws and Claws breakfast buffet.
On hand were reps from the GPA chapter, a handful of people and their dogs, more than a handful of people and their greyhounds and several greyhounds were there for adoption. The greyhounds won't be there every time but if you want more info, go to Fastfriends.org.
Aside from attending the brunch and booking the pet packages, there's another way to help out the GPA and spoil your dog at the same time. If you buy a bottle of Canine Wine (essentially gravy for dogs) from the hotel, $1 of the purchase price goes to the GPA. With names like Pinot Leash-eo and Sauvignon Bark, it's totally ridiculous but what can we do? Our dog loves it.
The Paws and Claws breakfast buffet is held every Saturday and Sunday from 7am to noon.
