Send Your Friends to Vegas With a Gift Card

April 30, 2008 at 9:00 AM | by amandak | 0 Comments

While it's increasingly common for hotels to let you buy gift cards valid for accommodation or other hotel charges, maybe we don't want to be the one to choose where our friend or relative actually stays. If you're planning to send them to Vegas, there's now a solution, because the Vegas.com booking site has just launched the Vegas.com Gift Card.

At the moment, you can buy a gift card in $25, $50 and $100 denominations, and cards up to $10,000 are planned for later in the year. It can be used for bookings through the Vegas.com website and that means for hotels, show tickets, nightclub passes and even golf tee times. It's valid only for hotels that you can book through Vegas.com (and you have to make the booking through Vegas.com), but if there are any hotels that aren't on the list, we haven't figured out which ones they are.

Things we like: your gift recipient doesn't have to use the whole amount at once if they don't want to--the balance just remains on the card for them to use in the future. And that can be any time in the future, because the gift cards never expire.

What we don't like so much: the gift card is sent as an email voucher to the recipient, the minute you buy it. An email just doesn't do it the way some pretty card in a fancy envelope does ... but on the other hand, it's practical and they can use it straight away.
