Last year, Buenos Aires gadabout Matt Chesterton filled us in on the boutique hotel scene in the city. And wouldn't you know, we needed a place to crash after our long trip to Uruguay. (Our flight was out of Ezeiza airport in BsAs.)
So we looked up La Cayetana, after reading Matt's dead-on description:
Here's a boutique where the designers (Estela Fitere and Silvina Tarrio) have devoted more than 10 minutes and a few phone calls to their scheme. A perfect blend of restored original features (the mosaic floors, the high bare-brick ceilings, the free-standing tubs) and modern conveniences (Wi-Fi, etc).
We really enjoyed our one-night stay, and our full review, complete with another video tour is after the jump.
Check-In and Service
This isn't a big place--there are 11 rooms--so don't expect doting desk clerks. The vibe is almost bed and breakfast, though a bit more posh.
That said, the couple folks we dealt with were super-friendly and helpful. A recommended restaurant was spot-on, an airport transfer the hotel arranged showed up early and we were welcome to linger in the breakfast area as long as we liked. This is the upside to staying at small places.
Room Reaction
Our room, number 11, was a little too pink for our liking. But each is different, so if you have a color phobia, inquire.
Materials are all top-quality, and the bed was plenty comfy. All the rooms face the building's courtyard, so they can be a little dark, but in-room lighting is adequate. NB: There are no TVs here.
The Bathroom
Nothing too special, though design junkies might enjoy the funky sinks. Water pressure is good, and you could boil eggs with the hot water. Toiletries were nothing special.
Internet
The hotel advertises free Wi-Fi and delivers. We had no trouble connecting, and access was--as far as we could tell--firewall free.
Bar and Restaurant Scene
There's none. While La Cayetana has a pleasant garden and breakfast room, there's nothing happening after noon. Luckily, you're in Buenos Aires, so this shouldn't be a problem.
Bottom Line
We enjoyed our short stay at the hotel, though we expected it to be a bit more sceney after checking out its Flash-heavy website. The fact that it wasn't pleasantly surprised us. La Cayetana is a great place to chill in such a manic city.
