Travel Like Indiana Jones Using Expedia

April 28, 2008 at 12:53 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is back in theaters on May 22 and boys and girls aged 25+ are getting geeked out about the return of their favorite adventurer.

And what better way to emulate Indy then take an adventure of your own that goes beyond building a fort in the family rec room?

Expedia is making it easy with their new Indiana Jones promotion, having created custom tours to 10 locations that either appeared in or were inspired by the Indy movies. Here's a few:

Horseback riding in Petra, Jordan (like in "The Last Crusade"); Elephant safari in India (like in "Temple of Doom"); visiting Incan ruins in Peru (like in the new movie, "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull")

If you somehow weren't totally freaked out as a little kid by the "pulling-out-the-beating-heart" scene in "Temple of Doom" (we were) and want to go to India, here's what's in store for you.

You will tour New and Old Delhi, see the Taj Mahal and Red Fort, take a tiger safari, sail on a boat down the Granges River and sightsee around the ancient city of Fetephur Sikri.

Twelve days and 11 nights include meals, accommodations, domestic flights/transfers (within India), and a local tour leader for the entire trip. Total cost? $2799.

Other itineraries to choose from include China, Egypt, Mexico, Nepal and the USA. If you're minding your pennies, the cheapest tour to take is the Peru trip ("Raiders of the Lost Ark" journey) to the Amazon jungle for $1,699.

As far as hotel accommodations, most places on the tours are listed as "Comfort Class 3 – 3 ½ stars.” We did find out that on the Peru trip, travelers stay in a “lodge in the Tambopata Rainforest Area.” In Jordan, travelers stay two nights at the Red Sea Resort of Aqaba – and they camp for a night in the desert outside Petra. On the U.S. trip to the Southwest, travelers spend one night in a hotel and five nights outside camping.

Not feeling quite as adventurous these days as you did back in 1984? Enter the Quest for the Golden Suitcase sweepstakes where you can play daily to win from 1,400 prizes. Plus when you register, you are entered to win a trip for four to Southern California for the "ultimate movie adventure."
