Mother's Day is next Sunday, May 11 and if you were thinking of picking up all the usual gifts for mom on her big day like flowers, chocolates, that latest New York Times bestseller, we say get a little more creative. Afterall, moms like to have fun too. (Or at least we think they do.)

So our suggested way of thanking Mom for all her years of love and hard work is with a pedicure, a facial, and lunch by the pool at the decadent Estrella Spa at Viceroy Palm Springs.

The "Mom and Me" Special involves a full-day spa package that offers mom-and-daughter pedis, full-hour facials, wash-and-blowouts, and a makeup application so you two can look your best.

Then there's your option of afternoon lunch, either by their totally glam pool, or at the hotel's appropriately yellow and white hued restaurant, Citron. Their lunchtime menu features everything from poolside nibbles like fruit skewers and four-cheese macaroni to ceviche, Greek penne pasta and huevos rancheros.

One spa amenity worth asking after, if it's available, is the Viceroy's "White Room," a converted one-bedroom villa that's often rented out for private events -- but if there's none booked, you and Mom can chill out post-facial. Also, the spa offers "gentlemen" spa treatments so dudes can take their moms here as well.

The special also comes with two bottles of "Viceroy Bubbles." An obliging reservationist at the spa confessed she has no idea what this. But it sounds fizzy. And relaxing. And a deservedly little extra touch for Mom, too.

The special is going for $586 which reflects a 15 percent discount. The only downside is you have to book a room separately. Rates start at around $232 but on Mother's Day we found a room for $182 and it offers 25 percent off your entire bill including spa services and meals. So maybe that's the better deal to book instead.
