Happy Half-Birthday to Hamilton Island's Qualia

April 18, 2008 at 9:30 AM | 0 Comments

At the top of the list for our must-visits in northern Australia is the Qualia resort on Hamilton Island, off the Queensland coast. Qualia has just celebrated its six month anniversary and the resort has proudly reported back a few statistics from its first half year in business.

Even though the resort isn't entirely complete, what they have there already is running at a 60% occupancy rate, and in such a short time, they're already seeing 10% of their guests returning for a second go.

The Qualia PR machine also says they've had a number of international celebrities check in, although they refuse to mention who.

The first handful of TripAdvisor reviews have quickly put Qualia at the top of places to stay on Hamilton Island. And the superlatives litter the page. Above all, Qualia sounds like the kind of place where the service is close to perfect, for example:

They think of everything here (and I'm not talking about the fact that each pavillion comes with its own electric golf cart for getting around the resort and the small island). I'm talking about the fact that the staff comes by each night and plugs the golf cart in for its nightly charge ... I'm talking about when you park your cart head-in at the restaurant parking area and you find it turned around and ready to roll when you return from dinner.

Please Santa, bring us a vacation at Qualia this Christmas. We want our own golf cart too. Average rates are A$1,500 (US$1,400, Santa, but we promise to be good for the rest of the year.
