UPDATE: Here's the official word from Robert Van Eerde, Managing Director of Gansevoort South:

“There was a small, contained fire on the unoccupied terrace at the penthouse level at Gansevoort South yesterday afternoon. The Fire Department responded immediately and extinguished the fire within 15 minutes. No one was injured and damages were minimal. The hotel is fully operational. “

The Gansevoort South was burning yesterday. Details are a little sketch but the South Beach Real Estate Blog reported that the hotel had "flames shooting from the roof." The rooftop has a bar and an adults-only pool.

We've sent an email to the hotel's reps and will update you as soon as we hear what went down.

Lost in Gansevoort (none / 0)

I finally got to check out the rooftop last weekend during the Gen Art Fresh Faces event.  Gansevoort South is way too big and confusing.  Try and follow my story without getting lost.  The event was moved from the pool to the private beach because they couldn't get the permits from the city to have the runway over the pool.  So they made everyone take the elevators from the lobby to the third floor (pool area) and walk down 100 stairs to the runway show on their private beach.  They had a velvet rope with security guards limiting the number of people getting on the elevators.  After the event we had to head back up the stairs to the third floor in order to take the elevators down to the lobby and switch to the other elevators that go up to the rooftop.  Apparently only three of the six elevators go to the roof.  But we had to take the emergency stairs leading outside the hotel because there were too many people using the elevators.  Once we got back into the hotel lobby we had wait in line behind the velvet rope to get on one of the elevators that goes to the rooftop.  It's a fucking disaster over there. They should have never opened it until it was completely finished.  I was really excited for this hotel but now I'm totally disappointed.  I even joined David Barton Gym in December which has yet to open.  FYI - Make sure you tell the taxi drivers that you're going to Roney Palace cause no one can pronounce the name Gansevoort. ;-X.
