International Hotel WiFi: Cairo's Nile Hilton Gets It Half Right

Last time we visited Egypt it was sans laptop, but we're intrigued to know how the WiFi situation is doing there now. According to the website of the Nile Hilton in Cairo, their hotel "boasts wireless internet access throughout" and they plug it a second time when describing the rooms by enticing guests with the opportunity to "keep in touch with wireless internet access".

It sounds good, almost too good to be true, because they don't even mention any charge for it. So we checked out the recent guest comments on TripAdvisor to see if there was any sign of WiFi. We're often quite surprised by the fact that nobody seems to mention the presence or absence of WiFi in these reviews--surely we're not the only travelers out there who want it?

Anyhow, plenty of travelers praised the location, directly across the road from the Nile, and more than a few commented on the tired décor and drab appearance. As for the internet, we have to go back to October last year to find someone say that it cost 40EGP per hour (over US$7)--in fact they recommended going to the internet café in the mall next to the hotel. So there you go--probably too good to be true. But sometimes paid WiFi is better than no WiFi at all.
