The building used to be a 14th-century merchant's house but it's been done up with art deco style furniture and lighting and fitted out with all the modern creature comforts and technology needed for a 4-star hotel. Only re-opened after a big renovation in 2000.
It's in the Dorsodouro district, away from the tourist hordes and high prices of St Mark's Square and the Grand Canal, but within short walking distance from everything you want to see. Out of the window and down below is a little Venetian street that used to be a canal before it was paved over. Best thing, really. Who wants to step outside the front door into a canal?
If you want a killer view, bag Room 30 at the top - Venice's rooftops rather than anything watery, but worth the extra dosh all the same.
La Rivista is the name of Ca'Pisani's restaurant, which is apparently pretty good - we haven't tried it but it looks fun enough. Word is that the bar is something special, with an old 1940s bar-top and dark red leather sofas. The hotel claims that its lamps "resemble inverted Neapolitan coffeepots" - we'd love to see a photo if anyone happens to go there.
Standard rates hover around 270-370 for a double room for a night, but you can get packages including dinner and breakfast and special deals in low season. Just phone up and ask.
