Grand Hyatt is one of the giddiest hotels in a pretty damn giddy city of high hills and even higher buildings. High-flyers with large wallets stay on the restricted upper floors, with the best views over San Francisco's Coit Tower or bay and a private bar and lounge.
The top-floor restaurant's open to everyone, of course, and a pretty giddy experience too - they call it the Grandviews Restaurant for a reason.
The hotel's not just tall, it's pretty fat as well - 685 rooms and around 30,000 square feet of function space spread over 36 or so floors. There's a Starbucks on the ground floor and at least an army of Chinese ladies to keep the place clean.
Apart from the view and the great location (Union Square), we can't remember much about the Grand Hyatt. Hyatts all tend to blend into one, we find - rather too much beige, rather too many businessmen, and you only notice the bland décor when something's wrong. We do remember getting stung by Wi-Fi and mini-bar prices - this place wouldn't win the HotelChatter WiFi awards.
And except the pure joy of standing butt-naked on the narrow balcony, gazing over San Francisco, 32 floors up above a busy pavement. The Hyatt's worth it just for that.
