El Conquistador Hotel in Puerto Rico is an extremely pretty cliffside resort that is set up as five villages full of villas (there are also 750 rooms, but the villas are where it's at), set around a good size indoor outdoor lobby, a casino, and a sprawling pool area.

If you stay here, and don't rent a car, you are going to be tied to the resort grounds for most of your stay. Don't fret though, there is a steakhouse and a Starbucks on-site, as well as plenty of other shops and restaurants.

Remember, while this highly-touted Puerto Rico resort it is old, and shows its wear in spots. Furthermore, if you want to spend your time away on a Puerto Rico beach, you will need to ride the funicular then hop on a boat to Palomino Island, which is just off sure. If this short trip to the beach sounds like a fun adventure to you, this is probably your kind of resort, if it sounds like a pain in the ass to you, you will be better off at the Ritz.

Either way, you can't deny this resorts stunning beauty, take a look at the photos we snapped below.

NEVER AGAIN

When arriving to the El Conquisidor Resort, I was anxious and excited as my family members talked it up for a family wedding. When I got to the 4 star hotel it looked on the outside to be beautiful. When I entered, I could see the beautiful views at check in. After check in I went to my room, Room number 4322. I started to unpack and hang my clothing up for the week. I went into the bathroom to find pubic hair and dried urine on the floor along with feces on the inner rim of the toilet bowl. When I went to contact the front desk, I noticed a large amount of what seemed to be pubic hair on the bed. Then when I went to pick up the phone there was a long strand of hair on the phone and on the light over the phone, not to mention the large abundance of dust. So, I went over to the cordless phone on the desk across the room to call. When I sat down to call, I noticed a dried, used tampon underneath the nightstand. So, I called and asked for a manager to come up immediately. They sent up the Maintenance Supervisor (very nice man but, not who I asked for). After going through another room with him, I was forced to go all the way down to the main desk to speak with a manager since he/she was unable to come up to the room, which was extremely far away. After waiting at the desk for over a half hour, I spoke with a woman named Aileen Lisch, the director of the front desk. She informed me at this point that I should be grateful for the room I was in as "she" had upgraded my room from a Garden room to an ocean front room. Reason being I was there for a wedding. She had no idea I was there for a wedding as I booked my entire travel through Expedia. After going back and forth, all I wanted was a refund for my room for the week and leave the hotel out of disgust. My cousin was getting married at this resort, so I knew I would have to go back. She told me that she could not refund my room because I had booked my travel through Expedia (which come to find out was a lie as per Expedia corporate office). She asked what would make me happy? I answered to leave the hotel. She stated that was something she would never offer and offered my guest and I to have a day at the spa, which ended up being a 55-minute massage. Which I was very grateful for being it was the best part of the vacation other than my cousins wedding. She also offered free breakfast for our stay to a select restaurant at the hotel and a different room, Room number 3516. After the massage we went to lunch at the Café Caribe. On the way there, with no caution signs up they were repairing the hotel with sharp construction tools. The men started to yell for us to go down the stairs and walk up the other side. No problem, other then the cracks in the staircase that cased me to fall up the stairs and split my toe open. When we finally got to the restaurant, we ordered fried plantains as an appetizer. While eating them there was a large black hair fried into one of them. At this point, we really wanted to leave. Since Aileen was not there, I spoke with Jesus Roman, the hotel manager on duty. He was very nice and respectful and seemed to know where I was coming from. I asked, since there could be no compensation on my room if they could compensate my travel from the airport to the hotel and back to the airport and a later check out. He said he would contact me back, NEVER DID. I called that night to speak to him, which he was unavailable to speak with. That night we left the hotel and paid the cab driver $10 each way to get right outside of the hotel. When I asked him why it was so expensive he answered, the hotel gets $5 right off the bat for calling a cab for EVERY guest. The next morning I again called Jesus Roman that was again, unavailable. I went up to the office to speak with him. It was packed for check out. Since I did not know if he was going to allow late check out I packed up my bags and went to check out. He was sitting in the back while I was doing the check out and I asked to speak to him. Aileen came over and I asked her about the travel from the airport to the hotel and back. She told me, "You have been compensated enough and the hotel is not doing anymore for you. Sorry for everything that has happened during your stay but, I did a lot for you?!?" Disgusted, I smiled and left. This is no 4 star hotel, it is a very unclean, hairy if you will, motel. My complaining has nothing to do with money. It was the principal. Beware!!! I have stayed in many Waldorf Astoria Hotels and this is NO WALDORF ASTORIA HOTEL!!! If this is a hotel that the Waldorf is going to call one of it's own, I will surly NEVER stay in another one again! The El Conquistador Resort, A Waldorf Astoria Resort is more of an hourly rate motel if you get my drift with the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!
